Looking for a last-minute activity to do with the kids this holiday season? Or maybe a gift that you can easily pack into pages and take to the neighbors?
I was too a couple of days ago as I rumbled through the pantry for some kind of baking project to do with Leila. That was when I remembered my plan to make white chocolate covered pretzels. When I went to get out the white chocolate bark I found some peppermint candy canes and *lightbulb* I decided to do peppermint bark instead. This is how I did it.
You only need 2 or 3 ingredients:
1 Package of white chocolate bark or chips
1 Box of candy canes or package of peppermint candies
1 (optional) package of chocolate chips
First, get out a baking sheet and cover it in parchment or wax paper. Set aside.
Next, prep your candy canes by putting them in a plastic storage bag and smashing them. I used this hammer thing (technical term):
Once they were smashed, put them in a bowl and set them aside.
Melt your milk chocolate in the double boiler and then spread it in the baking sheet. Repeat with white chocolate.
Then, just get your crushed peppermint and sprinkle it over the top. I lightly pressed a layer of peppermints into the bark and then sprinkled a second layer on top for extra peppermintiness. Put your baking sheet in the fridge or freezer to harden up and then take out and break into pieces.
Leila loved helping me with it and when I let her taste it she looked up at me and said, "MMM, I like it!" Lol. Now if I can just keep myself from eating it all.
